Know Thyself

‘Do you know
you’re a word from heaven?
Do you know
you’re a child of God?

Do you know?
Do you really know?

Sons and Daughters of
the Living God…
Sons and Daughters of
the Living God’

Jason Upton- Sons and Daughters

I remember the first time I heard this song by Jason Upton. It reverberated in my spirit and the lyrics seeped into my soul. I knew it was truth; it was speaking Gods truth into my innermost being.

Sons and daughters of the Living God…. It challenged me, did I really know? Did I live like a daughter of God? Did I treat myself like one? Speak as one?

And as the song says; each one of us is a word from heaven to someone. Our lives are living and breathing expressions of the word of God. Whether we realise it or not, we each carry a message from God with our lives.

We are walking miracles of the new covenant. Re-born on the inside, delivered from darkness into light, given beauty for ashes and filled with the Holy Spirit of God. We have unlimited access to Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, grace lavished upon us and forgiveness freely given because of Christ.

We are pre-destined for glory, chosen and dearly loved. Aligned with the will of God, equipped with gifts. With renewed ears to hear and eyes to see- The veil has been lifted. We are part of the greatest people movement on earth, exposed to a love that defies comprehension and journeying towards an eternity in the new heaven and earth.

We are sons and daughters of the living God.

‘Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears to you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.’- Isaiah 60 v 1-3

We reflect the glory of God just by being who we are; being a son and a daughter. We must step into our family position, align ourselves with Him and represent the family name. The world is waiting.

I have observed those yet to know Christ, and a recurring objection is fear. Fear that they will lose who they fundamentally are.  Fear that accepting Christ and walking with God would dull their personality. They are rebelling against the notion of being reduced to carbon copies of the ideal ‘Christian’.

We can assure them there are no conveyor belts in the Kingdom of God. There is no heavenly cookie cutter poised and ready. No Christian identikit is applied after conversion.

My testimony is and always will be that God has made be become more ‘me’ than I’ve ever been.

Jesus makes us become who we truly are.

He brings out every nuance, shape and colour of our personality. He pulls out greatness from within the deepest parts of us. He reveals creative aspects of our personhood we would have never known or understood otherwise. He helps us become the best version of ourselves…His beloved sons and daughters.

We must know our true selves. Know that we are sons and daughters of the living God.

“This above all: to thine own self be true…”- Hamlet Act 1, scene 3

  1. The One who knit us together in our mother’s womb knows oh-so-well what makes us truly us… being made to seek and find Him, and we are never more satisfied when we find success on that journey!

  2. omg… LOVE this so, sooooooooooo much! thanks for sharing and writing this… I read half of it aloud to my mom to remind ourselves who we are… we tend to forget now and then. 🙂
